I saw the trailer of movie phillauri last evening and seriously it’s Amazing, not because I am a big fan of anushka sharma but the concept is new. The concept of a person who married to a peepal tree. Ohh… Sorry, actually last night I was thinking about what if everyone married to a tree. You know India has always been famous for its old different culture and traditions. There are some villages in india where people still do these rare marriages like a human married to a tree or animals or animal married to an animal with same Indian wedding rituals.
Reasons of these strange and unique marriages:
Manglik dosh –In Hindu astrology, Mangal Dosha is an astrological combination that occurs if Mars (Mangal) is in the 1st, 2nd (Considered by South Indian Astrologers), 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house of the ascendent chart. A person born in the presence of this condition is termed a manglik. It is believed to be unfavourable for marriage, causing discomfort and tension in relationship, leading to severe disharmony among the spouses and eventually to other bigger problems. It means if you’re thinking about love marriage, please check his or her kundali. What if you both are manglik?? In this case, if two mangliks marry, the negative effects are believed to cancel each other out. However, Mars is not the only planet in Astrology that is supposed to affect the relationship.
There is a belief that the negative consequences for a single-manglik marriage can be resolved if the manglik first performs a ceremony called a kumbh vivah, in which the manglik “marries” a banana tree or a peepal tree or a silver or gold idol of the Hindu God Vishnu.
Farmers believe – According to mythological believe of assam’s farmers , holding a frog marriage ensures ample rainfall. As part of the wedding, a wild female frog is married off to a wooden figurine, representative of the Hindu god of rain, Indra. A unique event where two souls were united solely with the intention of appeasing the rain god Indra, however, the bride and groom appeared to be without any embellishments and were silent throughout the ceremony as the bride was a frog and the groom a bamboo puppet! The marriage is celebrated as a normal Indian marriages with the priest and same marriage rituals.
Dog marriage – some people believe in spirit. If a girl born with a mangal dosh, deformity, clear lip and tooth then a girl is said to endanger the life of husband. To exorcise her, the girl married to a dog.
Let’s think for a while, this situation is very typical for girl. if a girl married to a tree or a dog, how can she introduce herself..? Hi, I’m mrs. Peepal or banana tree or mrs. Tomi… Lol. (a hilarious situation)
It is said that people can find ghosts on the peepal trees. Then to who the girl is marrying tree or the ghost ? And what if there are number of ghosts???
After marrying with a tree, they cut it down(killing the spouse). For these kind of marriages, they’re destroing ghost villa and harming environment… Is it acceptable..?? Does his/her partner cries when tree is dead? How can we say that by doing this kind of treatment , the couple would not suffer? Do they give guarantee of no feud in marriage life who suggest this ?And if a person born with Mangalik dosh or cursed with an evil spirit and to prevent from the negativity of this dosha how someone can let him/her marry to a dog?? Whats their fault…..? And after marrying with dog does she become housewife of a dog or they leave ? And how they elect the dog if its good for her or not….?? May be it would be like “Its a street dog its not good for my daughter’s future…ohh its a pet dog ….what an in laws she has got…she will be happy forever”
If i think about the dog which was forcefully got married with the girl?? What will the dog give answers of its possesive girlfriend? How will the dog explain?
And what about the newly wed Frog couple? Do farmer provide a new clean pond as a gift to live?
I see the whole situation in a hilarious way(try to understand my view)
Apart from this funny point of view on the serious note i would like to say its all about the psychology and compatibility of couple . If they really want to get married and live together nothing can stop from doing that . Its all about the belief , people should change their mindset and let the couple decide what they want
Rather ill than unique practices/rituals. 😥

Though I had heard about a few of them, the frog marriage is something I learnt today. Your article was well presented with a dash of humour too! Thanks for sharing this informative post Monika!

I have heard about these traditions but many of them which you’ve mentioned are new to me. I don’t know if I should question the traditional beliefs that give impetus to these unusual marriages but I do certainly agree with you that there is something more important than the stars and planets. True love is something magical, something special, something which is beyond the control of the stars. So, maybe the passion and purity of love of the couple deserves more importance…..I appreciate your attitude! You are a person who is willing to see and experience change! ….

Yes i want to see little bit changes in the world. Everyone should have right to say what they feel about a situation, a person or anything . Some people go through these situation but they can’t do anything because they get bounded by the family , by the society and the statement “what people will say??”. Let us get out of this ….the people are not going to solve any problem if we have . Listen to your heart and have the courage to say what you feel and thank you so much for appreciation 😊

Do they kill the dog after marriage? (If it’s yes then it’s cruelty and animal abuse)
